In 2019, a total of 26 students were enrolled in Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah’s International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme after the educational institution received accreditation to offer the program.
Minister in charge of Malay and Muslim Affairs, Mr Masagos Zulkifli Masagos Mohamad, said that the program aims to equip future asatizah with wider range of skills and knowledge in order to guide our community face upcoming challenges.
He mentioned it while answering question by (former) Minister Mr Amrin Amin regarding efforts to upgrade local madrasah in Singapore.
“As the madrasah sector is key to our main plan to mould future asatizah, our madasah are also being strengthened thouroughly,” said Mr Masagos.
Unlike the GCE ‘A’ Levels – where full grades are determined by a final examination sat at the end of the two-year program – students in IB are tasked to complete several assignments throughout their two years which will then accumulatively determine their final grade.
Both the GCE ‘A’ Levels and IB are part of pre-requisites to enter University.
According to Mr Masagos, Madrasah Aljunied received accreditation as an IB school in October 2018.
