For the first time, Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah prepares their own bubur Ramadan to be distributed to 400 needy residents of Jalan Kukoh throughout the whole of the holy month.

The weekly distribution is done in collaboration with M³@Jalan Besar.

For four Fridays starting 16 April, teachers and students of Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah together with M³@Jalan Besar volunteers will be working together to share the blessings of Ramadan to needy residents of Jalan Kukoh.

Under the inititative “Bubur for Kukoh”, they will distribute two packets of porridge each to 100 households per week of Ramadan. A total of 400 households will benefit from this initiative this year.

“This initiative also gives our students from Madrasah Aljunied a unique experience they can use to get closer to the community. It teaches us lessons we might not be able to teach in our classrooms,” said MP for Jalan Besar GRC, Dr Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah, who was the special guest on that day.

The feelings resonated with Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah, Nur Adilah Nasuha Muhamad Sabar who felt grateful being given the opportunity to help the needy residents of Jalan Kukoh.

“Initiatives like these are important so that we can build stronger relationships with people who are less fortunate, share our Ramadan experiences and allow them to not feel lonely,” she shared.

Administration Manager Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah Ustaz Mohamad Zakir Isahak agrees that experiences like these are meaningful for the students.

“It (the programme) gives them new experiences to our children and madrasah students in learning the meaning of life and helping others in need at the same time contribute back to society. Why? They are, like people say, our future asatizah,” he added.
