Madrasah Alsagoff
Al-Arabiah

About

Established in 1912 upon the legacy of the last will of its founder and benefactor Syed Mohamed b Ahmad Alsagoff, Madrasah Alsagoff Al-Arabiah is the oldest madrasah among existing full-time madrasahs in Singapore. Though it started out as a madrasah for male students only, it converted to into an all-female institution in 1966 – and has maintained as such ever since. It is recognised as one of the Heritage Schools by the National Heritage Board.

Currently, the school is acknowledged as the leading madrasah in Infocomm Technology and STEM programme. In 2019, the school was awarded the prestigious title of an Apple Distinguished School for innovation in the use of technology in teaching and learning. It is one of only 5 schools in Singapore and one of 500 schools in the world that has received the award.

Although modern in its approach, Madrasah Alsagoff is very much rooted to the Islamic tradition and emphasises on the mastery of the Arabic language, Al-Quran and As-sunnah. Students are trained to be future scholars in Islamic sciences with strong foundation in Mathematics and Science.

“Our madrasah strives to produce future religious scholars who will guide the community to learn the correct teachings of Islam according to the text with a clear understanding of our context.”
